That’s the name of the church where today’s funeral took place.
Somewhere south of boston, in the middle of nowhere – a family laid to rest a beloved daughter and mother. I never had the chance to meet this extraordinary woman but being at my friend’s side while he dealt with his mother’s sickness and then death made me feel as if I knew her. I knew she was a strong woman who gave her son faith as she suffered and made plans to go on trips together as soon as she recovered. I also knew that she lived a rich life and did things others wouldn’t dream of. In the midst of the Lebanese conflict, she moved with her child back to Lebanon because that is where her heart was.
It was mostly these qualities and her joie-de-vivre that helped others deal with their loss. She wouldn’t want them to be unhappy on this day.
The family was so full of love. I gave my condolences to her parents (my friend’s grandparents) and teared up. The mere thought of losing someone in the family is hard to think about. How could it be that parents are burying their daughter and now a young man is left motherless?
He’s been so strong in dealing with it. His face was solemn but not torn during the mass. I didn’t know whether he’s numb from all the pain he’s gone through, but I believe it had alot to do with his mother’s strength, poise and dignity which he completely inherited and displayed so well today. I’m so proud of him.
