Good Night SMS

You know you’re in a relationship when you suddenly start getting (and sending) good night texts on your phone.

That’s romance for this generation’s couples and one of the small ways to show you’re thinking about that special someone in the next-to-most-intimate-way you can reach them – via their phone. No matter how silly or corny these messages are, they’ll invariably put a smile on your face. And if you don’t receive one of those messages one night, you get to wondering: Is something wrong? Is he/she ok? Are we ok?

Has our phone’s inbox become a the cupid of romance? You can say so in keeping up with technology and society’s habits. In my opinion, love texts remain somewhat more intimate than love emails yet nothing beats a handwritten love letter (feel free to call me old-school). One day when you’re old and you’ve discarded of your iPhone and Blackberry (that day will happen), all that will remain is that which can be put in your hands. Printed out love texts or emails don’t have the same sentiment as someone’s actual handwriting

For all of you that disagree and find phone texts incredibly sexy, here’s some ultra-corny good night texts to spark some romance:

I’ve gone to bed happy, i’ve gone to bed mad, and sometimes I’ve even gone to bed sad, but when I go to bed thinking of you, that’s when you know I’ve gone to bed glad!

My day may be hectic, my schedule may be tight, but I would never let the day end without saying “Goodnight”.

As you go to bed tonight,I beg the moon to give you light, telling my angels to hug you tight and make sure you will be alright. I ask the gentle breeze to kiss you goodnight!

I ran up the door, closed the stairs, said my pajamas, put on my prayers, turned off the bed, and hopped into the light, all because you kissed me goodnight! (I just realized that someone once sent me this one. Sounded familiar!)

If you find yourself in a room filled with bloody walls and thumping sounds, don’t worry – you’re just in my heart. (Kinda creepy, no?)

Now readers, I want to hear from you: what was the most romantic good night text you’ve ever received or sent?

Style Hunting

Contrary to popular belief, fashion emerges from the streets not the runaway. A lot of high fashion is rarely things people could actually wear out. Ok, besides the incredibly high prices, you’d look plain silly. Not to mention the low comfort level.

An example of fashion emerging from the streets has to be the “sherwel” pants. I honestly don’t get how they became such a hit, but lots of people are wearing them. Even in Spain. When I see people wearing them, I can’t help but think of the men in the mountains here. The other day I saw one walking in downtown, so I followed him. You know, for the sake of research. I wonder if that’s how the trend started.. or someone just really liked baggy pants.

Speaking of urban inspiration, check out the photography of Yvan Rodic. He travels the world capturing urban style through his revealing – and sometimes very provocative lens. Here are a few of his photographs:

Saints Bracelets

(sold on Gringas and Company)

(sold on Gringas and Company)

Saints bracelets were never that common while I was growing up. Most people use prayer beads or cross ornaments. Others overdo it with layers of crosses, 3D Christ on the crucifix or Mary symbols.

It wasn’t until my trip to Honduras that I learned about Saints bracelets. I brought one for my friend who was in the hospital while I was there, and have worn one since.

I’m not particularly religious, but have been raised with Christian beliefs and traditions. One of them, for example, took place today. My mother and I drove up to Harissa (a large statue overlooking Jounieh and the sea). Whenever you have a new car it’s tradition (or maybe even a little superstition) to drive it up to Harissa for blessing and protection from accidents.

While there, I wandered into the souvenir shop (Harissa is extremely touristic with people visiting from all over the Arab world). I just couldn’t decide on which Saints bracelet I wanted! They all looked so interesting!! I love how detailed the images on each one is and the stories behind all the saints that wrap around your wrist.

South American, or Latin cultures tend to wear these bracelets more than others. A salesman once asked if I was Puerto Rican because of it! I’ve started spotting them in trendy shops, like Metropark, but the religious implications remain.

Welcome to My Blog!

Lorena's Epiphany was created one morning in 2006 and has joined me ever since. It's been my home-away-from-home and where I've been able to unleash my inner-most thoughts and musings. Hopefully one day I'll look back at this as an old lady and smile.
