The Betsey Johnson Show

Betsey Johnson Show - 01Celebrating 20 years of fashion in Boston, the Betsey Johnson show at the Estate was an eclectic display of outrageous hairstyles, sexy-cute dresses and the dancing talents of one of models.

The show began inside-out – three of the models sat on the stage and had their hair done out in the open as their stylists bobbed and danced to the music. Each model must have had at least 4 hands managing her ‘do. One of the models wore a wreath of flowers on her head and did a beautiful modern ballet piece at the start.. Both events were very interesting twists to the typical runway show.

I’ve become an even bigger fan of Betsey Johnson after that night and admire the wit she infuses in her fashion. As we waited, one of her previous shows played on the screens and I loved how all the models in wedding dresses wore handcuffs. I found that incredibly cool! Although the crowd of (mostly) over-excited gay men and over-made-up girls got on my nerves – it was a very inspirational night. Some pictures I took that night:

Now, if only I could actually afford her dresses…

Supply & Demand

Hope
shepard

Shephard Fairey is coming to Boston to launch his new exhibit: Supply & Demand. Fairey is a street artist, most notable for the Obama Hope poster [above] and has been involved in guerrilla art campaigns around the world.

I’m excited to catch this exhibit that will showcase over 80 of his works, as well as a new mural commissioned for the ICA. “Obey Female Muslim” is one of his edgier series, and the few I’ve seen in reviews so far are powerful and exquisite. I can’t wait to see them!

Fairey will also be creating public art works at sites around Boston. To see some of the ‘marks’ he’s left around Beantown so far, click here. Pretty funky stuff.

Catch this unmissable exhibit at the ICA from Feb. 6 to Aug. 16, 2009. Exhibit information.

Satisfaction through Benny B.

Last Thursday, my friends and I were dancing front row at the Benny Benassi concert. For those who don’t know him, his song “Satisfaction” was huge a few years ago. “Push me… and then just touch me…” (I won’t go more explicit on this one). If you’re not going “Awwww…. yeah!” right now, you probably never heard of him.

The night started at 10pm with drinks at Underbar. They had everyone in there for an hour until we could go to the actual Benassi venue at The Roxy. Smart marketing strategy, I’d say, because the drinks are slightly more expensive at Underbar. There were a lot of young people there. Most looked younger than 21, but the regulations are so strict, I doubt they could’ve been. The crowd was very international too. There were big groups of Chinese and Indian folks. Guess that’s who his biggest fan base is here in Boston.

It was definitely a big improvement from the Paul van Dyke concert we went to a while back. For one, the location in downtown Boston was way better than PVD’s all the way out in Marina Bay, Quincy. Just getting there was a nightmare. And it had been raining that day. Sand + Rain = Dirty Shoes. We were dancing in sand puddles all night, but didn’t care since it was PVD after all. Only wish the location and the crowd had been more classy. Haram PVD. If he was going to perform in Beirut or Dubai or anywhere else, he would’ve gotten a better location and more respect. 3aib.

Back to Benassi: At around 11pm, we were funneled into Roxy. This was my first time there, so I was suprised to find it was actually an old theater. And pretty tacky to be honest. There were plastic palms trees on the tables and it had a very 80s vibe to it. The stage was big though and we were lucky enough to score locations right in front. Benny Benassi is so entertaining to watch! He was waving and blowing kisses at the crowd and dances in a funny way… Moving his hands and body like a robot while shaking his hips. He was adorable! My friends fell in love with him that night. As did all the other girls in the crowd, and most of them ended up dancing right behind him on the stage. Every once in a while, a drunk girl would stumble on the stage and have to be “escorted” off. The sound system was great and he played his signature mixes. Good times.

David Guetta is coming this Wednesday (also at the Roxy). I won’t be able to make it, but should be awesome.

Welcome to My Blog!

Lorena's Epiphany was created one morning in 2006 and has joined me ever since. It's been my home-away-from-home and where I've been able to unleash my inner-most thoughts and musings. Hopefully one day I'll look back at this as an old lady and smile.
