Miracles in Movie-Making

I recently received an email from the director of “Santa Claus in Baghdad”. The movie was featured in the Boston Globe and is making its way through Massachusetts and targeting schools for cultural awareness purposes.

The movie is based on a tale by Newton native Elsa Marston’s “Figs and Fate: Stories about Growing up in the Arab World.” To read the full article on how the movie got made (and the miracles it took), click here.

And I don’t mean to brag, but I appear in the marketplace scene a few times. What great fun working on the set! The set designer did a miraculous job of transforming a Framingham studio into a bustling Iraqi marketplace. You’d never guess it was all built in 48 hours had you not been on set. It’s a short film and worth watching. Schedules of screenings are also in the Boston Globe article.

Satisfaction through Benny B.

Last Thursday, my friends and I were dancing front row at the Benny Benassi concert. For those who don’t know him, his song “Satisfaction” was huge a few years ago. “Push me… and then just touch me…” (I won’t go more explicit on this one). If you’re not going “Awwww…. yeah!” right now, you probably never heard of him.

The night started at 10pm with drinks at Underbar. They had everyone in there for an hour until we could go to the actual Benassi venue at The Roxy. Smart marketing strategy, I’d say, because the drinks are slightly more expensive at Underbar. There were a lot of young people there. Most looked younger than 21, but the regulations are so strict, I doubt they could’ve been. The crowd was very international too. There were big groups of Chinese and Indian folks. Guess that’s who his biggest fan base is here in Boston.

It was definitely a big improvement from the Paul van Dyke concert we went to a while back. For one, the location in downtown Boston was way better than PVD’s all the way out in Marina Bay, Quincy. Just getting there was a nightmare. And it had been raining that day. Sand + Rain = Dirty Shoes. We were dancing in sand puddles all night, but didn’t care since it was PVD after all. Only wish the location and the crowd had been more classy. Haram PVD. If he was going to perform in Beirut or Dubai or anywhere else, he would’ve gotten a better location and more respect. 3aib.

Back to Benassi: At around 11pm, we were funneled into Roxy. This was my first time there, so I was suprised to find it was actually an old theater. And pretty tacky to be honest. There were plastic palms trees on the tables and it had a very 80s vibe to it. The stage was big though and we were lucky enough to score locations right in front. Benny Benassi is so entertaining to watch! He was waving and blowing kisses at the crowd and dances in a funny way… Moving his hands and body like a robot while shaking his hips. He was adorable! My friends fell in love with him that night. As did all the other girls in the crowd, and most of them ended up dancing right behind him on the stage. Every once in a while, a drunk girl would stumble on the stage and have to be “escorted” off. The sound system was great and he played his signature mixes. Good times.

David Guetta is coming this Wednesday (also at the Roxy). I won’t be able to make it, but should be awesome.

Welcome to My Blog!

Lorena's Epiphany was created one morning in 2006 and has joined me ever since. It's been my home-away-from-home and where I've been able to unleash my inner-most thoughts and musings. Hopefully one day I'll look back at this as an old lady and smile.
