The Sky’s Batting Eyes
The moon rests lazily
on my shoulder
As the bright sky bats
its hundreds of eyes
And a vastness
embraces my fluttering heart.
The only sound I hear
A distant car
Driving away.
Away with my reservations.
Away with my sense of control
And fear.
A familiar arm wraps around my shoulder
Shielding the cold wind
That whispers in my ear.
Reminding us
the moment is fleeting.
The waves beneath us
Echoe our soft words
Of exploration
of who we’ve become.
And of discovering
who we still are.
Time has taken us apart
But time has also brought us
Together,
Here.
Now.
The rhythm of our hearts
Beat with each minute
That’s left
And those yet to come..
If You Forget Me
[a lovely poem by Pablo Neruda.. and not why you think]
..
si poco a poco dejas de quererme
if little by little you stop loving me
dejaré de quererte poco a poco.
I shall stop loving you little by little.
Si de pronto
If suddenly
me olvidas
you forget me,
no me busques,
do not look for me,
que ya te habré olvidado.
for I shall already have forgotten you.
Si consideras largo y loco
If you think it long and mad,
el viento de banderas
the wind of banners
que pasa por mi vida
that passes through my life,
y te decides
and you decide
a dejarme a la orilla
to leave me at the shore
del corazón en que tengo raíces,
of the heart where I have roots,
piensa
remember
que en ese día,
that on that day,
a esa hora
at that hour,
levantaré los brazos
I shall lift my arms
y saldrán mis raíces
and my roots will set off
a buscar otra tierra.
to seek another land.
Pero
si cada día,
But if each day,
cada hora
each hour,
sientes que a mí estás destinada
you feel that you are destined for me
con dulzura implacable.
with implacable sweetness,
Si cada día sube
if each day a flower
una flor a tus labios a buscarme,
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ay amor mío, ay mía,
ah my love, ah my own,
en mí todo ese fuego se repite,
in me all that fire is repeated,
en mí nada se apaga ni se olvida,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
mi amor se nutre de tu amor, amada,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
y mientras vivas estará en tus brazos
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
sin salir de los míos.
without leaving mine.
Oda al Café
My first poem in Spanish dedicated to.. coffee! (It was for my intermediate-level class)
Antes de abrir los ojos
Pienso en ti.
Me das la fuerza
de abandonar mi cama.
Tu olor sólo es suficiente
Para resucitarme.
Cuando te acercas a mis labios,
Sé que voy a tener momentos buenos.
Te quiero en todas tus formas:
De rubia, de morrena, de negra,..
Todo el mundo se pelea por ti:
Los Brasileños, los Turcos, los Americanos,..
Pero al final, vas a ser mío.
Capuccino, frapuccino, cafe latte,..
No sé como llamarte!
No importa, eres lo que eres..
Quédate conmigo, ¿Quieres?
Life After Me
Another reason why I love Pablo Neruda. Don’t worry: this poem doesn’t relate to anything at the moment, but it was too beautiful not to share..
When I die, I want your hands on my eyes:
I want the light and the wheat of your beloved hands
to pass their freshness over me once more:
I want to feel the softness that changed my destiny.I want you to live while I wait for you, asleep.
I want your ears still to hear the wind, I want you
to sniff the sea’s aroma that we loved together,
to continue to walk on the sand we walk on.I want what I love to continue to live,
and you whom I love and sang above everything else
to continue to flourish, full-flowered:so that you can reach everything my love directs you to,
so that my shadow can travel along in your hair,
so that everything can learn the reason for my song.
